Tool

Kitchen remodel cost calculator for Chula Vista

Set the cabinet approach, the length of the runs and the countertop material, then add the extras. The tool builds a range from published installed figures rather than from a quote. Treat the result as a bracket to weigh a real quote against, never as a price.

Semi-custom lets depth, height and finish vary from the catalogue, which is what most rooms with a soffit or an out-of-square corner need.

Add up the wall length that carries cabinets. A small galley is around 12 to 16 feet, a typical suburban kitchen 20 to 28, a large kitchen with an island 30 or more.

Counter area is worked out from the run length at a standard 25 inch depth, so the two sliders move together.

Reading the number

Every figure behind this tool is a published national installed range. Cabinet per-linear-foot rates, countertop per-square-foot rates, backsplash and appliance figures come from Fixr's January 2026 cost guide. Flooring, panel upgrade and plumbing relocation figures come from Angi's June 2026 guide and Bob Vila's May 2025 guide. Installed means labour and materials together, not materials alone.

San Diego County generally sits at or above the national middle. Locally published figures put a San Diego kitchen at $22,000 to $88,000 overall as of February 2026, with a full overhaul at $50,000 to $100,000 or more as of June 2026. If your result lands at the bottom of the range here, treat that as the optimistic end rather than the likely outcome.

What this tool does not cover: structural work such as removing a bearing wall, which needs an engineer before it needs a price; permit and plan check fees, which differ across the cities and unincorporated areas in this county; abatement in older housing; and anything discovered once the walls are open. Those belong on a real quote as separate lines rather than being folded into a square-foot rate.

The full cost guide breaks each of these down with the sources named, the cabinet guide covers the decision that moves the total most, and the main guide covers how a scope is put together before any of it is priced.

Published national installed ranges for the line items on a kitchen budget. Whole-kitchen and per-fixture figures from Angi (June 2026); component figures from Fixr (January 2026). The horizontal scale is compressed so small and large items fit on one chart. Every bar is a planning bracket rather than a quote, and San Diego County generally sits at or above the national middle.

About these figures

Why does the cabinet choice move the total so much?

Because it is roughly two fifths of the budget on its own. Fixr's January 2026 breakdown puts cabinetry at 40 percent of a typical kitchen, and its per-linear-foot figures run from $100 to $300 for stock through to $500 to $1,200 for custom. The same kitchen, same layout, same appliances, can differ by a factor of five on that decision alone.

Should I trust a national average for San Diego County?

Only as a floor. Angi put the national average at $26,941 in June 2026 and Fixr at roughly $27,000 in January 2026. Locally published San Diego figures the same year run from $22,000 to $88,000 overall, with a San Diego renovation service quoting $50,000 to $100,000 or more for a full overhaul in June 2026. Use the national figures to sanity-check the shape of a quote, not the size of it.

What does this calculator leave out?

Structural work, because it cannot be estimated without knowing whether the wall carries load and what the engineer specifies. Also permits and plan check fees, which vary by jurisdiction across this county, asbestos or lead abatement in older housing, and anything found once the walls are open. Those are separate lines on a real quote and they should be.
